Benefits of a Sensory Room

Sensory rooms are specifically designed to provide a full range of stimuli to help engage all, or some, of the senses of the users. These include the visual, audible, smell and touch senses, in a safe environment.

The benefits of a sensory room are most helpful for those with learning difficulties, developmental delays and processing impairments, because they help them learn how to interact with the world around them.

Individuals with, Autism, ADHD and low processing all benefit for the therapies a multi-sensory room can provide. The headline benefits are:

  • Sensory stimulation
  • Develop communication skills
  • Enhance learning through play
  • Relax and calm
  • Improve concentration and focus
  • Increase hand-eye coordination
  • Promote socialisation

A well considered sensory room will have any number of specially selected products to illicit reactions, so it’s important to sit down with one of our design experts to understand what’s available and wanted considering the rooms objectives as well as the challenges and supports needed for the rooms users.

It’s also important to consider the location in advance and choose an accessible location, without windows so you can control the lighting artificially, in an area that’s as far away from noise as possible. A well designed Sensory Room can cost anywhere between €10,000 – €30,000 depending on the size of the room, area that’s padded, quantity of products and level of technology.
